Weekend Recap: iHeartMedia Lifestyle Health and Wellness Expo
I am so grateful to have been a panelist for the 2nd year in a row at the iHeartMedia Lifestyle Health and Wellness Expo. I had the opportunity to meet so many amazing like-minded people and share my thoughts on restrictive diets, staying motivated, managing stress and how to make healthy eating part of your lifestyle.
I had so much fun with my fellow panelists: Carlo Filippone, Jenna Warner and Mara Schiavocampo. Wendy Wild of 103.5 KTU did an awesome job of leading the panel – kept it fun, fresh and relevant for our audience. One of the questions she asked how we kept our clients motivated. The entire panel agreed that contact with our clients, nutrition education, and positive reinforcement keep our clients motivated, but it’s also about helping them maintain or develop a healthy relationship with food. When my clients understand that there are no “good foods” or “bad foods” and that they can reach their goals without any food restrictions, they are more motivated to continue on the plan.
Dr. Oz spoke last and I really loved when he said something along the lines of:
People don’t change based on what they know, they changed based on what they feel
To me, this means that when people physically and mentally feel the positive effects of taking care of their body (i.e. eating right and exercising), they are more likely to make permanent changes. If something feels good, you’re going to keep doing it – right?
I feel incredibly lucky to have my friends and family and some of my clients there to support me (thanks guys, much love!).
All I wanted at the end of the day was a delicious meal and a cold gin martini. Went to dinner with the family and passed out by 11:00 p.m. #partyanimal
It felt wonderful to sleep in this morning and take some time to enjoy a delicious cup of Nespresso (obsessed with my new machine). Love how this coffee froths up at the end!
Walked over to the gym for a great workout then took a leisurely walk to Vic’s with my boyfriend. I had heard this was a fun brunch spot, but didn’t realize the food would be so good! We started with the focaccia with ricotta cheese and tomato sauce – tasted like a slice of sicilian pizza! The sauce was amazing.
For my main course, I got the grilled chicken/greens and I kid you not- best chicken I’ve ever had. The greens had thinly sliced roasted broccoli tossed in and some peppers that packed in some unexpected heat.
My boyfriend go the short rib sandwich (which was insanely good) and we got the beets for a side. They were served warm and also packed a little heat (not overpowering though!). Can’t wait to go back and eat the rest of the menu.
What’s your favorite NYC brunch spot?!
